Wendy is a PhD candidate at Virginia Tech working to obtain a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction and holds a certification in Educational Psychology.  She is also a certified literacy specialist with a Masters of Science in Reading Education, a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and licensure and certification in Administration and Supervision from Radford University.  She joined T/TAC in 2015 after many years of working in fully inclusive classrooms as a literacy specialist, a principal designee, and an elementary classroom teacher.   She has received many awards including the New River Valley Reading Council's 2019 Anita Corey Scholarship,  the Virginia State Reading Association's 2015 Technology and Reading Award, the Virginia State Technology in Education's 2014 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award, the Virginia State Reading Association's 2013 Reading Teacher of the Year Award for the New River Valley, and the 2012 Teacher of the Year Award for Belview Elementary.  

She has also authored proposals which led to the winning of the 2014 Family Engagement Award for the Mid-Atlantic Region and the International Literacy Association’s 2013 Exemplary Reading Program Award for the state of Virginia. Wendy is committed to excellence in education for every student, every day. Her speciality areas include dyslexia, structured literacy, instructional technology, educational leadership, and school improvement. Wendy serves on the T/TAC State-Directed Reading Network and is the Regional Dyslexia Facilitator for Region 7.  She is also a Certified Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator as well as a Certified LETRS facilitator.  Wendy also serves as a Virginia Literacy Act Review Team Facilitator.
